SB Animal Control brings dog to visit his ailing owner at rehab center

They've been separated for a few weeks but Friday they were reunited briefly to lift everyone’s spirits.

Thanks to the kindness of South Bend Animal Care and Control, a man's best friend made a quick visit to his ailing owner to help him recover.

For the past few weeks Max the pitbull has been staying at the shelter. He's become quite popular and sits behind the desk, greeting visitors.

The 14-year-old dog doesn't do much but his owner, Leon Ciesielski, calls every day from his rehabilitation center to check on him.

Ciesielkski is recovering from a stroke and his dog was picked up by the shelter when he was taken to the hospital.

The shelter decided to give Leon a boost by bringing Max over to visit him.

“It makes me feel really good that he is going to be reunited and hopefully his owner can pull through and they can go back home,” says South Bend Animal Care and Control Officer Bob Burch.

Ciesielski says, “I'm glad to see that he got some good, some good takin’ care of.”

No word on when Ciesielski will be able go home, but in the meantime his dog can stay at the shelter
