South Bend Police officers are investigating a shooting after they were dispatched to the 1600 block of N.Olive Street at 9:58 a.m. on Sunday.
Two people were shot and an armed man was in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found one man that had been shot and killed lying on a sidewalk.
A second man who had also been shot and killed was found inside a home.
The suspected gunman began shooting at officers and three officers returned fire, hitting and injuring the suspect.
Three South Bend officers discharged their weapons, and none of the officers involved were injured.
The two men found dead have been identified as Johnnie Avance, 53, and Donald Wayne
Paris, Sr., 55.
Autopsies on both victims are scheduled for Tuesday.
Because this was a homicide case as well as an officer involved shooting, the County Metro Homicide Unit was called to investigate.
The suspect was transported to the hospital and remains under treatment.
The suspect has been arrested on an outstanding warrant from Marion County.
