Thieves strike two Notre Dame dorms

The University of Notre Dame’s campus fell victim to a pair of thieves this week.

On Tuesday Oct. 2, Notre Dame Security Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man and 26-year-old woman for stealing two laptops and a wallet from campus residence halls.

A student and dormitory staff member in O’Neill Hall contacted NDSP on Tuesday to report suspicious activity of two people checking for unlocked dorm rooms. Minutes later a second student called the police from Zahm Hall, saying a woman walked into his room, picked up his roommate’s laptop and then left.

Notre Dame Security Police quickly found and arrested the duo in a nearby parking lot. In their possession were two laptops and a wallet. The man was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The apprehension of the two criminals led to the recovery of students’ property, as well as the recovery of a stolen car believed to be used by the pair. NDSP is further investigating the couple’s possible involvement in other thefts on campus.

The names of the man and woman arrested have not been released.

NDSP recommends the following:

*If you see something, say something! Contact NDSP right away regarding suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1 from any campus phone or by dialing 574-631-5555 from your cellular telephone.

*Lock your residence room or office, including windows, whenever you are away – even if you are gone for a just a few moments.

*Residence rooms and windows should be locked when you sleep.

*Do not let people who are unknown to you into residence halls.

*Keep valuables secured and be cognizant of your surroundings.
