A road project in South Bend experienced a slow down Tuesday because vandals damaged a piece of equipment.

The Lincolnway extension project, south of the airport, is expected to be done this fall.

But Tuesday morning, employees from "Indiana Earth" found one of their excavators vandalized, with around $25,000 worth of damage.

The earth mover had the seat ripped up, cab windows broken and caps taken off.

Something was also poured into the motor, and the oil and hydraulic lines were cut... And it left workers there angry.

“It's real frustrating because we are trying to get the job done,” said Jeff Steiner of Indiana Earth. “And now we are down a machine that we really needed today. It's aggravating when people do that.”

Indiana Earth is working with crime stoppers and looking to offer a higher award to track down the people involved.

The owners say they plan on catching and prosecuting the culprits.
