The River Bend Film Festival in South Bend kicked off Wednesdau night. Until Saturday afternoon, movie fans can preview 50 national and international films from a variety of genres.

There also will be workshops that appeal to people just curious about the industry (such as how to do makeup for movies) and workshops for those looking to work in the industry, including tips on how to get your movie picked for distribution.

The festival will give folks an opportunity to get advice from and have a dialogue with indie film directors and producers.

Thursday night, there will be a special screening of a film that gives a behind the scenes look at what it takes to put a film together.

"I really hope [the audience] gets an idea what it's like to create a film and how much goes into it pre-production, production and post-production," said Father John Wykes, director of the films "Shot by Shot." A lot of things can go right. A lot of things can go wrong."

"One of the things we try to do here at the River Bend Film Fest is get people who are inside [the industry], get people who do the job on a daily basis," said Joe Haase, program director for the festival. "I think we succeeded this year. We have Hollywood producers from today and from past years."

Tickets for the event range from $5 to $30, depending on the event and can be purchased online at riverbendfilmfest.org.
