The River Bend Film Festival underway in South Bend will continue through the weekend and give independent movie lovers a lot to see and do.

From industry pros to cinephiles to those who just want to know what goes on behind the scenes, the festival will present a variety of workshops.

Professional movie makeup consultant Victor Cao who worked on the thriller "suspended animation" will give special effects makeup tips on Saturday.

He gave viewers a demonstration this morning on NewsCenter 16's own Sabrina Wu.

Some of the prosthetics Cao is using to create the appearance of swelling and gashes were actually developed for the Mel Gibson movie, "The Passion of the Christ."

"In the workshop we're going to talk about the materials, different types of materials that can be applied for different effects--pros and cons--and how to apply themto create a variety of different characters," said Cao. "Sometimes [people are] not using the right makeup for the right effect--there's water based makeups, there's oil-based makeups for different effects so picking the right product for the right affect is what's very important."

In addition to the special effects makeup workshop, there also will be workshops on fundraising for films, movie distribution and production, among others.

"Every year we try to mix it up in terms of the workshops we offer, things we think people will get a lot out of by keeping fresh topics," said River Bend Film Festival director Tim Richardson.

The River Bend Film Festival will run through Saturday afternoon. Those interested in tickets can find them at http://riverbendfilmfest.org.
