It appears that millions of dollars in renovations to Coveleski Stadium in South Bend is bringing in more fans.

President Joe Hart says attendance for the first half of the season has nearly doubled compared to last year.

It's gone up from about 41-thousand to 79 thousand. That includes a couple of sell out games on June 8 and 15.

Hart says when he sees kids playing in the splash pad, families spending time together in the patio section or parties in the outdoor suites; he knows the work was all worth it.

At the current rate, attendance at Silverhawks games would reach 157,000 this year. That's over the 'magic' number spelled out in the team's Coveleski Stadium lease agreement.

"We have an agreement with the Silverhawks that, after the attendance reaching 125,000, the city parks will receive 25 cents per head," said South Bend Parks Superintendent Phil St. Clair.
