SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A renovation initiative that started with students is about to get underway at South Bend's Kelly Park.
The park sits on the corner of Howard and N. St. Peter on the northeast side, and today the old equipment, some of it sixty years old, was removed
Students from the Robinson Community Learning Center worked with Notre Dame Researchers and a local architect to come up with the plan.
Today, they gathered with basketball coach Mike Brey, city leaders and the businesses owners who are helping fund the improvements.
The new park will include a basketball court, new playground equipment and a community garden
The kids are still raising money, and will be selling bricks for a walkway in the park.
Construction will begin next month, and hopefully will be finished by August.
