ELKHART COUNTY Elkhart County employees could soon be getting a long-awaited pay raise.
The council is considering a proposal to double the county's contribution to health savings accounts, from 750 dollars per year to $1,500. The increase would cost an extra $475,000 per year. They're also considering a 3 percent pay raise for all full-time employees.
Council President John Letherman is in favor of the raise. He told The Elkhart Truth, “It’s been five years since we've really had a raise for anybody. They should have 15 percent - 3 percent per year. So if we give them 3 percent raises and $1,500 in their wellness account, we're still two or three years behind where we ought to be."
There will be a public meeting Thursday on this and other budget changes. It's at 4:30 at the Elkhart County Administration Building in Goshen.
