Quarter scale auto races being held at Newton Park this weekend

Lakeville, Ind. Ladies and gentlemen, start your remote controls. At Newton Park Friday, racers were testing their cars in preparation for a quarter scale auto club race.

The event, hosted by Hoosier Racing Tire, was renamed the Bob Newton Memorial Race in honor of the company's founder, who passed away last September at the age of 85.

The race features quarter scale remote control cars in four different classes.

The cars are a quarter of the size of an actual race car, the only difference is the use of a remote control.

Bob's heart and passion was focused on racing and the family element that it embodies.

“This weekend with it being the Bob Newton Memorial Race they are doing Hoosier Tires on all the cars, they don't really have Hoosier Tires, but they printed off little stickers that say Hoosier Tires on them,” says Nichole Saunders who is with Hoosier Racing Tires. “Each car has the Hoosier purple and it says in memory of Bob Newton.”

“The atmosphere of the park is family oriented and that's what we try to appeal, it matches well with our quarter scale remote control cars because we too try to appeal to family so it’s just a good relationship,” says racer Kevin Verschuure.

The event will continue Saturday at Newton Park, beginning at 9 a.m. with open practice and a tricycle race open to all kids who are interested.
