Power companies look for ways to pay back overcharged customers

Local utility customers could get a discount on their bills in coming weeks. Power companies are paying their customers back, after overcharging for a new green initiative program.

The Elkhart Truth reports that NIPSCO customers paid an extra $6.44 per month, on average, to fund the Energizing Indiana program. The company is still trying to figure out how to pay back the money. They put in a request with the state utility regulator to lower the extra charge to $3.05 per month.

Indiana Michigan Power is considering similar measures.
