Police warn of increase of burglaries in Cleveland Township

Elkhart, Ind. Police are asking residents of an Elkhart community to secure their property, to help stem a rash of burglaries in the area. They're seeing an increase in burglary reports in Cleveland Township.

The most recent one happened in the 30000 block of County Road 12, where thieves broke past a garage door lock. The suspects took off with valuables, including tools and machinery.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department has been responding to other similar incidents at detached sheds and garages.

In addition to locking things up, police encourage residents to install lighting to deter thieves.
