A convicted murderer, on the loose for two days, is now back behind bars.
Steven Robbins, 44, was arrested by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department Friday in Kankakee, Ill. On Saturday he was returned to the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.
According to a prison media statement, Robbins was released Wednesday from the Indiana State Prison on court order to the Cook County Circuit Court on a detainer for a pending drug charge. Although the charge against Robbins was dropped, for reasons yet unknown, the offender was released by Illinois authorities without being held for return to IDOC custody.
Robbins is serving a 60 year sentence for murder and carrying a handgun without a license. Robbins arrived at the Indiana State Prison in Oct. 2004, and his earliest projected release date is June 29, 2029.
“I appreciate the rapid response of all the staff at the Indiana State Prison and all law enforcement agencies who worked closely with us in the apprehension of Steven Robbins," Superintendent William Wilson said.
