Granger, Ind. Elkhart County Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing to investigate the death of a 17 year old female who died at a Granger residence on November 2nd.
The victim, who has been identified as Tiana E. Alter of Elkhart, was found deceased at this residence after officers responded to a 911 call Friday night.
The Elkhart County Coroner has ruled Alter’s death a homicide—saying she died as the result of "multiple sharp force injuries."
Coroner John White says toxicology results will be available in 2 to 3 weeks.
Sheriff’s Detectives are making progress in this case and are planning to forward the investigation to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office soon.
Police were called to the home where Alter was living on County Road 1 in Granger after 11 o'clock Saturday night.
Neighbors say the girl was living with a family that she baby sat for and they had lived there for only a month or so.
The teen was found dead in a bedroom in that home. Some neighbors reported seeing a man taken being taken into custody. Police say a person of interest was arrested on unrelated charges and is still in custody.
Neighbors say the babysitter watched over two young girls who lived in the home. Many were shocked to hear about the events of Saturday night.
“They are nice people and the babysitter was very friendly and it’s sad,” says a neighbor.
Some neighbors say they heard loud talking or shouting before police arrived.
Police have not confirmed the identity of the person of interest.
According to the records kept by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, 26-year-old Michael Shoun was arrested at the home in question shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.
