South Bend, Ind. Two teens were shot on South Bend's near northwest side Saturday.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of Fredrickson Street. That's near the intersection of Fredrickson Street and Olive Street.

Police tell NewsCenter16 one 16-year-old male was shot in the hip. Another 16-year-old male was shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the leg. Their injuries are not life threatening.

The mother of one of those teens is speaking out about the incident.

"He told me he was walking through the alley and people got to shooting, they don't know who shot him though," said Diana Walker, who said her son is back from the hospital and recovering at home.

The other boy, who sustained two gunshot wounds, was still recovering in the hospital when she left. She said his life did not appear to be in danger.

"I was scared, I thought that my son was dead," Walker said. "So I think that they need to get some more police officers out here on the west side of the neighborhood or a lot of kids are going to be dead."

And neighbors aren't surprised by the afternoon's incident.

"We heard like five shots," said Barbara Tate-Elley who was across the street on Olive at the time. "And we really didn't think too much about it because were always hearing a lot of shots around here. We starting seeing that ambulances and police cars were coming and then we knew something serious had taken place again."

Witnesses tell NewsCenter16 there were kids nearby when the shooting took place. They say it was an apparent drive-by. Police also say the suspects fled in a car after the shooting. They have no suspect description.
