Police discover marijuana plants growing near Elkhart Central

Elkhart, Ind. A place that's normally quiet during the summer months, turned into the site of a multi-agency drug investigation last week.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, police discovered more than 550 marijuana plants growing near Elkhart Central High School.

A tip led officers to an area near the school's baseball field on July 7. Police disposed of the plants, which appeared to be growing wild without anyone cultivating them. School officials plan to have the soil turned over and sprayed with a vegetation killer to keep them from coming back.

Police are not pursuing a criminal investigation.
