Snowfall and a frozen lake didn't stop some brave folks from taking a plunge Saturday morning. Many decked out in fun costumes headed out to Pleasant Lake, all in support of Special Olympics.
Our very own Gabby Gonzalez even joined in, and took a plunge herself. While the event brings a lot of laughs, the money raised helps keep Special Olympic events running in our area.
“You never see an athlete without a smile on their face,” says participant Laurie Nawton “The families didn’t have to pay for any of it. It’s just donations like today that pay for all of that. It’s just amazing what they learn, the friendships from their coaches their family, each other.”
This year there are 28 Polar Plunges going on throughout Michigan. The goal is to be last year's fundraising efforts which topped $950,000.
