Penn Township Trustee resigns

St. Joseph County democratic chairman has told Newscenter 16 that on Friday, July 13th, Jeff Dean will resign as Penn Township Trustee.

Dean sent out a letter today about his resignation.

We're told because of procedures, there won't be a precinct caucus until early August.

Dean pleaded guilty to charges that he mismanaged township money.

He’s accused of hiring his girlfriend as an administrative assistant who made $25,000 dollars as a janitor, yet there were no time cards to prove it.

While Dean initially said he would not step down, he has now done a 180 with his letter of resignation.
