Overnight Police chase ends when car hit a house

An overnight police chase in Elkhart ended when the driver crashed into a house.

It all started just before 1:30 Wednesday morning, when officers tried to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Cassopolis and Bristol streets for a traffic violation.

The driver refused to stop and led police on a short chase, which ended when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a utility pole and crashed into a home. The house was occupied at the time, but, thankfully, the homeowner was not injured.

The driver, Brian Gates, and a female passenger had to be cut from the vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was reported stolen from La Porte City. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
