UPDATE: Investigators uncover source of early morning apartment fire

One person was taken to the hospital after an early morning fire in South Bend.

Fire investigators now say the blaze started in basement of an apartment building where a box spring and mattress were burning.

Firefighters received a call about an apartment building on fire at 1:30 a.m.

The fire happened in the 600 block of west LaSalle.

One woman was trying to get out of the building when she fell down the stairs and broke her leg.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
