One person injured in morning house fire

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and burns to his hand after a fire broke out in Osceola Wednesday morning.

It happened in the 10-thousand block of Glenwood Ave. just before 7 a.m. Crews saw they saw the fire coming out the front door when they arrived.

The man's name has not been released but police and neighbors say he had some health problems and was on oxygen treatment. He was the only person at the home at the time of the fire.

Penn, Clay and Mishawaka fire departments initially responded but Penn was able to handle it on their own and had it out in 10 minutes; firefighters did have to monitor some hot spots.

The house is not a total loss but there is extensive damage inside. A cause remains unknown.
