With the upcoming holiday season more families will hit the road, and local officers want to remind people how important passenger safety is.
Police from around Elkhart and St. Joseph counties spent the afternoon at the Walmart at Ash Road on Old U.S. 20 kicking off Operation Pullover’s annual “Safe Family Travel” campaign.
They were looking for drunk drivers and making sure that everyone, including children, was properly buckled up. Technicians were also on hand to offer free car seat safety checks.
According to a government survey, most parents improperly install car seats. One-in-five do not even read the directions before putting one in their car.
In order to assure that car seats are put in correctly, officials say to check to see if vehicle manufacturers recommend a particular seat to buy.
