Notre Dame to celebrate 125 years of worship at Basilica with special mass

Notre Dame, Ind. Notre Dame's campus will be busy Friday afternoon as the community joins to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

The special 4 p.m. mass will be led by Bishop Daniel Robert Jenky of Peoria, Illinois.

Jenky formerly served as Director of Campus Ministry and rector of the basilica before becoming auxiliary bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend in 1997.

Alumni of the Notre Dame liturgical choir will sing at Friday afternoon's mass. A reception in the rotunda will follow and all are welcome.

But there's good news if you can't attend; you can also watch it live online and you can download the special anniversary mass program.

We have a link to all of that on the Big Red Bar.

The basilica serves as the oldest and principal church of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the U.S.
