Notre Dame freshman are coming up with solutions to improve the community.
Wednesday night, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg spoke to students as part of the First Year Challenge program.
In the program, freshmen develop proposals for how to improve the communities surrounding Notre Dame. To help them come up with ideas, Buttigieg spoke about many of the issues South Bend faces, such as gun violence and unemployment.
Buttigieg also told students how they could get the full South Bend experience while at Notre Dame. He encouraged them to celebrate Dyngus Day and stop by small, neighborhood restaurants to experience local flavor.
