No jail time for teen after South Bend shooting

A 19-year-old man will not spend any time behind bars, for his involvement in a November 2012 shooting.

Herbert Brown was sentenced to 4 years suspended with 4 years probation and 80 hours of community service.

Brown pled guilty to Assisting a Criminal, a Class C felony, for his role in the homicide of 51-year-old Mack Caldwell.

Caldwell had apparently fallen on hard times, and was staying with a friend at the time of the shooting in the 1000 block of east Bowman.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Caldwell suffering from a gunshot wound.

17-year-old Rayterrion Wheeler was charged with Murder, a felony.

Wheeler was previously sentenced to 60 years imprisonment, 50 years executed and 10 years suspended with 10 years probation for Murder.
