A Niles woman has pleaded not guilty to charges related to a tragic accident last fall that killed a family of four from Mishawaka. That's according to the Niles Daily Star.
Last Thursday a judge ordered Cecilia Cheney to stand trial in circuit court on 16 counts, including involuntary manslaughter.
She was initially facing misdemeanor charges in the case but those charges were upgraded to felonies after Cheney turned down a plea deal.
Last October, Cheney was driving east on U.S. 12 in Cass County, when she started to veer off the road. When she tried to correct it, she crossed the center line, hitting the family's car head-on. Both vehicles rolled and caught on fire.
Curtis Stone and Stacey Garza both died along with their baby, Devin, and his grandmother, Kathleen Marks. Cheney was the only one who survived.
Police testified that she was speeding when the crash occurred.
