Downtown South Bend is on its way to becoming a much more harmonious community. That's because a new musical arts school called The Music Village is celebrating its official opening this week.
Mayor Buttigieg took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning at its location in the lower level of the JMS Building. The idea for The Music Village came from Chicago's Old Town School of folk music.
Organizers hope to bring more cultural and educational opportunities to residents through music and dance classes for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
“One of the things that the founders all appreciate is that there is a rich, rich cultural tradition, many rich cultural traditions, musical traditions, in Downtown South Bend and the surrounding areas,” says Kellirae Boann the Executive Director. “We want to save and celebrate those traditions.”
The opening week festivities will continue Friday during First Fridays, where the school will have a booth set up outside the South Bend Chocolate Cafe.
