South Bend, Ind. On the River is back in South Bend for another year starting Friday. The event is located where Colfax Avenue and the St. Joseph River meet in Downtown South Bend. If you are coming from out of town and need to put an address in your GPS, you can punch in 320 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend.
The event is broken up into three different parts that caters to teens, families and those who are 21 and older. Friday night caters to the teens. From 5 p.m. to 11 teens can come out and have some fun. There will be a battle of the bands, a live DJ and a fireworks show.
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., families can come out and participate in carnival games, a bounce house; they will have a DJ, Zumba classes, family fitness and more.
Finally, Saturday night from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. is for folks who are 21 and older. They will have a volleyball tournament, cornhole, island themed food and drinks, a Jimmy Buffet cover band and more.
Now, there are a few things that are new this year. There is a new VIP party deck, in the past there was a VIP tent. They also changed the entrance way and added a few new umbrellas.
For parents who are worried about having their teens attend this event, there will be more than 200 volunteers at the event helping with security. They say there are also several protocols such as bag checks and the no alcohol/tobacco policy will be accompanied by police officers, the Red Cross, and several dozen security staffers will be on hand to ensure an enjoyable time for all.
