A 70-mile trek across Elkhart County paid tribute to the men and women who've lost their lives in the line of duty.
Dozens of motorcyclists filled the streets of Elkhart County Sunday afternoon to take part in the "Riding to Remember Fallen Police and Firefighters" charity ride. This was the 14th year for the benefit.
Organizers said the ride became more meaningful after the tragic events of 9/11, and allows those serving the community to continue the legacy of folks who've fallen in the line of duty.
“We have a lot of police and firefighters locally that had lost their lives,” said Mary Anne Ballard, a co-organizer of the event. “And they're kind of the unsung hero - you really don't hear about that very often.”
“They don't ever want recognition but it's nice that this event is going to provide monies for them to do things like sponsor little league teams, Shop with a Cop at Christmas to help underprivileged kids celebrate Christmas who probably wouldn't be able to,” she added.
All donations will benefit Elkhart FOP Lodge 52 and IAFF 338.
