Missing child found, Amber Alert cancelled

FISHERS A child who was abducted near Indianapolis earlier this week has been found unharmed.

8-year-old Sophia Snow was found with her mother, Jennifer Ansari, at a home in Louisville, Kentucky. Ansari is now under arrest.

Police believe she took Sophia from her father's home in Fishers, Indiana because she found out she might lose custody.

This story has many wondering what warrants an amber alert, since the child was with her own mother.

Here's the criteria Indiana State Police Use:

  • The child has to be under age 18.
  • There has to be some indication that the child is in serious danger.
  • There must be enough descriptive information to believe the broadcast will help.

Last year, ISP fielded ten requests for amber alerts, but only issued one. Sophia Snow's case was the first request so far for 2013.
