One of Mishawaka’s parks could soon be getting a major make-over. On Monday the Mishawka Parks Board will vote on plans to renovated Central Park.
Some of the plans include adding a splash pad, new playground equipment, and extra walking paths. Construction could start as early as this fall. One of the biggest draws to the new park will be more pavilions, to accommodate a growing need for.
“Really we look at Central Park as being the play space, this is place if you are going to have a family picnic or you are going to come it's not going to be your neighborhood playground it will be much larger and much more amenities,” explains Mishawaka city planner Ken Prince.
Also the city is in the beginning stages of revamping the ice rink at another Mishawaka park.
The Parks Department is researching the idea of adding a roof to the Merrifield Ice Rink. It would protect the ice from sun, rain and snow, allowing the rink to be used longer.
However it would take away the ambiance of pond hockey. Any idea on cost or design have not been seriously researched yet.
