Michigan Street received an honorary name Tuesday just in time for Restaurant Week. Restaurant owners and city officials gathered at the Doubletree to unveil the new street sign.
The group renamed Michigan Street, Eat. Drink. Downtown south bend. They also put the spotlight on a new trendy spot to eat downtown, Bakers. The bar and grill opened in December and has seating for up to a 125 people.
“It is an environment that you do not feel that you are actually being looked at in a fishbowl,” explains Leonard Clifton the Manager of Double Tree. “You know there is activity going on and really just lends itself to a pleasurable dining experience. Everything that you want here, whether you want TV's or a bar experience.”
The million dollar project also celebrates South Bend's history. There are relics throughout that celebrate the automaker, Studebaker. Restaurant Week ends February 3.
