Upton to go for his 14th term

U.S. Representative Fred Upton will be going for his 14th term this November. Tuesday night, he won the primary race against former State Lawmaker Jack Hoogendyk.

Upton beat Hoogendyk of Kalamazoo County's Texas Township by 14 percentage points in 2010 and overwhelmed the challenger again this time in fundraising.

Upton will be facing Mike O'Brien of Douglas in the general election. O'Brien ran unopposed on the Democratic side.

The Edwardsburg Police Renewal has passed and it looks like the voters have decided to keep the police department going. That millage passed 613 votes to 466.

But it's a different story for the push for more police funding as that millage was voted down by 618 to 446.

The Dowagiac School Millage was also shot down by a vote of 1,665 to 486.If passed, it would have given the school district enough funding to build a new high school next to the current middle school, then the entire district would share the facilities.
