An Edwardsburg Boy Scout is looking for your help as he works his way up from a Life Scout to an Eagle Scout.
It's all part of an Eagle Scout project that each member has to do before they can advance, and the project he has in mind is certainly going above and beyond.
Dustin Long, a junior at Edwardsburg High School, is planning to install a playground at his church for the project.
He says he and his family are members of Hope United Methodist and have lived in the area for a long time, so this is a way for him to give back to his community.
Dustin Long certainly has a lot of badges and he should.
He has been a New Scout, a Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life Scout, but now he wants to be the best of the best, an Eagle Scout.
“I have to do a leadership project, which is what I am currently working on,” Long says.
Sounds simple, right?
Well, Dustin doesn't want simple, he wants to build a playground at Hope United Methodist Church.
“Our church used to have a playground. It was really, really worn down and old and it had to be taken out because of liability and it was in the way of the next part of the church which is what they are currently working on. I loved playing back there. When I was a kid, I used to go back there and play on it all the time, but now there is nothing for the kids to do outside. There is literally, there's nothing but this parking lot,” Long continues.
He says he will order the set from BYO Playground who he says designs them for churches.
Dustin says he has the entire project approved by the Eagle Board and the church so now all he has to do is raise the money.
He says he currently has $5,000 but needs $15,000.
Dustin says that if anyone wants to donate, they can send the money to the Hope United Methodist Church. He says that it doesn't have to be a lot. He says he would just appreciate any help at all.
