A Michiana resident, who gave the gift of life, didn't need any more incentive when he donated blood this summer. But he wasn't going to complain when he was rewarded with a brand new car Wednesday.
For the second year in a row, Jordan Automotive and the South Bend Medical Foundation teamed up to give one lucky donor a free car or $10,000 in cash.
Anyone who gave blood from May 23 to August 25 was entered to win, but in the end it was Robert Fenstermacher who walked away with a set of keys to a bright red 2012 Ford Focus.
After the initial shock and excitement wore off, the 85-year-old told us he didn't need any additional encouragement to help save a life.
“I've given gallons of blood over the years, and I would give it whether I got a car or not,” says Robert Fenstermacher who won the car for donating blood. “The need is so great. It's such an opportunity to give something that doesn't really hurt you at all that's so precious.”
Fenstermacher says he hopes the event will drive more people to donate blood in the years to come.
