SOUTH BEND, Ind. Holiday travelers have been treated to a recent spike in gas prices in Michiana.

Gas Buddy reports prices have risen more than 20 cents in just the past week in South Bend.

That statistic is a stark contrast to the national average, which only jumped about 5 cents per gallon.

Petroleum analysts say it's normal to start a new year with high prices.

But they expect prices to drop back down during January and February, when there's low demand.

Meanwhile, here's a survey of prices around Michiana:

Gas buddy reports that prices around the South Bend area are averaging $3.47.

The lowest prices in Elkhart range around $3.39.

It's the same story in Benton Harbor.

Down in Warsaw, prices are higher, at about $3.46.
