Michiana college looking to stand out

Dowagiac, Mich. With all of the choices students have for attending college, one Michiana school is trying to stand apart.

Southwestern Michigan College opened their new Student Service Center on their Dowagiac campus Monday. The new center is located on the first floor of the college services building where the bookstore used to be.

It's hoped the center will make the college experience much more user friendly for students, and their parents.

This new facility will be used as a one stop shop, where students can solve any type of issue from applying for admission, to registering for courses.

“If the student says gee I wonder if complete the blank this is the place that they can come they can get financial aid they can figure out what courses they should schedule, they can find out how close they are to graduating it all takes place here,” says President David Mathews.

Southwestern Michigan College will be opening an identical student services center on their Niles campus in August as part of a $3 million building renovation and program expansion.
