Michiana Family YMCA open to kids out of school

Many Michiana parents were scrambling for a safe place to take their children today. While they went to work, or braved the black Friday crowds. But thanks to the Michiana Family YMCA, area kids got to enjoy time off school with a day full of fun activities. While their folks took advantage of the mega-sales.

The "Y" welcomed kindergarten through sixth-graders inside their Northside Boulevard location.

They opened the doors from 6:30am until 6:00pm giving parents a chance to get their holiday shopping done while knowing their children were well-cared for.

“They bring their lunch, we go swimming, we have a whole bunch of crafts and activities that we do all day. We keep them active when school's not in session.” Jessie Emmons, The Youth Development Coordinator for the Michiana Family YMCA, said Friday morning.

The "Y" offers all-day child care services whenever south bend students are out of school, including snow days. The drop in fee is $32 for a full day, or $22 for 6 hours or less, and the best part is Membership at the "Y" is not required.
