Michiana AARP gave residents the chance to meet local political candidates Monday. The group hosted a "Meet the Candidates" event at St. Paul's Sanctuary in South Bend.
Both Democrats and Republicans came out, talking about the issues that affect not just seniors, but all of Michiana.
These folks are running for offices ranging from County Commissioners, to U.S. Congress. The AARP says they were pleased with the candidate turnout.
"We sent out 26 letters to specific people that we thought would be served by this area,” said President of the Michiana AARP Bob Godsey. “We have 13 here, so that's pretty good. They're pretty busy guys and gals, so we had to accommodate them as best we could.”
The AARP stresses that it is not a partisan organization. Their goal is to educate not to influence.
