A victim of fungal meningitis left behind family and friends, as well as a beloved dog in need of a home. That dog, Lucky, may soon have a new home.
Pauline Burema was the first person in Indiana to die from the fungal meningitis outbreak, and according to the Elkhart Truth, her dog Lucky faithfully stayed by her side until she went into the hospital.
Burema’s family is no longer able to take care of Lucky, but they have received more than 20 inquiries about him from people across the Midwest in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
Lucky will spend some time with a potential adopter this week to see how things work out, but after the tragic death of Lucky’s owner, things are starting to look up.
