Meijer is helping fight hunger in the midwest.
The retailer launched "Simply Give" this week, which aims to give back to local communities all over the midwest.
From September 2-8, donate $10 at Meijer, and they'll double match, so that means a $30 total contribution! Each local Meijer sponsors a different food bank, so contributions end up helping fight hunger at over 200 food pantries.
The Simply Give initiative is part of the nation-wide Hunger Action Month in September.
This year, Meijer is donating one million dollars, up from their $100,000 promise in the past. That $1 million means 6 million meals for families in need.
Your $10 contribution and Meijer's match go toward gift cards that can be used at Meijer locations. While canned items and non-perishables are helpful, this initiative seeks to allow families the opportunity to buy milk, meat and other deli items.
This year, Meijer is expanding further and plans to add eight food banks in the Midwest. Those food banks and pantries will pick up fresh food like meat, cheese and bakery items from their local Meijer 2-3 days a week. The food rescue initiative increases types of food delivered, so perishable products that haven't been offered at food banks in the past will now be available.
Stop by your local Meijer retailer this week and all through September to help fight hunger during Hunger Action Month.
