South Bend, Ind. A man accused of beating several puppies to death is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.

Thirty-eight-year-old Joseph Perry was charged with several counts of mutilating an animal and would have gone to trial last month. But he reached a plea deal in the case.

The remains of three puppies were found in August of last year, behind Perry's home on Ironwood Road in South Bend.

Perry was nowhere to be found at the time but he turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest. He then told police, and even went on camera with NewsCenter16, saying he was out of town when the puppies died.

Perry claimed he left the dogs in the care of a friend, but hadn't been able to contact him.

We'll bring you the latest on this case in the later editions of NewsCenter 16.
