MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - A man was arrested after stabbing an elderly man at the Lighthouse Mall in Michigan City on Wednesday.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at 11:50 a.m. after reports of a robbery. When they arrived, they found a 70 year-old man who had received multiple stab wounds.
The victim and his 67 year-old wife said they were in their car in the mall parking lot when a black male opened the passenger door and demanded the woman’s purse. After stabbing the man, the suspect, Willie Jones, took the woman’s purse and ran.
Jones was apprehended later that night.
During the investigation, it was learned that another suspect was involved. Kenisha Simpson, 29, was also taken into custody when she was found in possession of property taken during the robbery.
On Friday, both Jones and Simpson were formally charged with robbery, aggravated battery and fraud.
The victim is in stable condition after undergoing surgery for his injuries.
The Michigan City Police Department and Lighthouse Premium Outlets have stepped up security patrols for the remainder of the holiday season.
