A bench trial continues today in South Bend to determine whether Tarrence Lee killed his wife Trina Winston last summer.
This morning two witnesses testified about the night Lee's wife, Trina Winston, was killed.
The first witness is a long time friend of Lee's
He says he remembered helping Lee move the body out of their Hickory Village apartment.
He also testified about the drive to Chicago but couldn't tell police exactly where they dumped the body.
The second witness to take the stand was Lee's older brother, Anthony.
He told the judge he didn't remember telling detectives about dumping the body because he must have been "scared at the time."
For the second time in his lifetime, Tarrence Lee finds himself on trial for murder.
Lee has already served some 20 years in prison for two previous murder convictions out of South Bend from the late 1980’s.
Tarrence Lee married Trina Winston in April of this year, and allegedly killed her in August. Today it was revealed in court that Tarrence Lee also had a daughter with yet another woman in February. That woman took the stand today saying she never knew Lee was married until police told her.
The 26 year old South Bend woman testified that Lee told her Winston was a roommate who helped share living expenses at his apartment at Hickory Village in Mishawaka.
Testimony indicates that Lee was at his girlfriend’s house around 7 p.m. the night he and friends dumped Winston’s body in Illinois, and that Lee was back at his girlfriend’s apartment by 7 a.m. the next morning to drive her to work.
The girlfriend testified that Lee’s eyes were red and that he looked tired. She said he explained that he had been “digging a hole all night.”
Further testimony came from a man who claimed he saw Trina Winston’s dead body in Lee’s apartment last August. The man said he saw Lee and another man drop that body as they carried it down the stairs to the trunk of Lee’s car.
The man said he refused to help Lee dispose of the body and that Lee later warned, “You’re going to end up like her.”
Additional testimony attempted to place Lee in the
Dolton, Illinois area where Winston’s body was allegedly dumped in August, but found just last month.
Lee’s cellphone records show the use of a cell tower on august 16th at 10:14 p.m. Chicago time, some six miles away from the Illinois location where the body was eventually found in October.
That coincides with a call the girlfriend testified she made to Lee on the night in question.
