Major changes for Race for the Cure in South Bend

Big changes were announced Friday for an important area event. Mayor Pete Buttigieg was among several prominent South Bend figures at Friday's Race for the Cure Kick-off Ceremony.

A new date and location were the two big announcements. The 5th annual race will now be in June, at its new location at Potawatomi Park in South Bend.

Organizers expect some 2,500 participants thanks to a new time and several additional events. Those include a Butterfly Memorial and a Family Fun Walk inside the zoo.

Race for the Cure is the Northern Indiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure's largest fund raising event.

"There are so many people no matter where you go and when you talk with folks, they have been touched by this and they know somebody in their family, their friends, and we think this is a way to really grow this great event," says the Race for the Cure Chair Mikki Dobski.

The 2013 Race for the Cure will be held at Potawatomi Park on Saturday, June 15.
