Local student named a 2013 Presidential Scholar

A Michiana resident has been named a 2013 Presidential Scholar. Erika Kirgios, a student at Penn High School, was given the honor for the State of Indiana.

James Wang of Zionsville was the other winner from Indiana. Kirgios says her most influential teacher was Cheryn Drake.

The award was established in 1964 to honor those students who have excelled in academics, arts and community service. Kirgios will receive her award June 16 in Washington D.C.
