A local girl is now a beauty queen.

Alyssa Garnett, 19, entered the contest as Miss Pulaski County but ended the day as Miss Indiana State Fair.

Garnett was chosen from 87 candidates, each representing their home county. She is now the fifty-sixth young lady to be crowned queen at the state fair and the third from Pulaski County.

“I never envisioned this happening. I’m so grateful,” she said. “When I looked to the girls beside and behind me, they have so many accomplishments, and then they called my name and I just couldn’t believe it.”

Garnett succeeds Mariah Huff of Jackson County as Miss Indiana State Fair and will begin representing the fair in 2014.
