A local meteorologist is facing multiple preliminary charges after crashing his car Saturday night.

Police arrested Jamie Martin, the chief meteorologist at ABC 57 News, for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

St. Joseph County police were dispatched to a rollover crash near Carmichael Dr. and Generations Dr.at 7:39 p.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived, they found a Jeep lying on its roof in a wooded area, just off the roadway.

Officers say the Jeep was empty and no one was near the scene, but after checking inside, they found several of Martin's personal belongings, including his ABC 57 business cards. A license plate check confirmed that the vehicle was in fact Martin's.

Police found Martin hiding inside the ABC television studios, less than a mile from the crash site. He had facial lacerations and was transported to Memorial Hospital by paramedics.

At the hospital officers say they smelled alcohol on his breath, but Martin denied drinking alcohol and refused to submit to a breath test.

Police were able to obtain a warrant to perform an official blood test, those results are pending.

Martin was booked at the St. Joseph County Jail on DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. A breath test at the jail revealed his blood alcohol content was .22.
