"Live Green" riverbank cleanup

This past St. Patrick’s Day, the St. Joseph River was dyed green to represent the message “We all live downstream: So live green.”

It was part of South Bend Friends of the St. Joseph’s drive to promote “green” events in the area. On Saturday, the organization will host another event to continue raising awareness about the environment.

The “Clean the River” riverbank cleanup seeks to remind folks that water resources are becoming more polluted. Cleanup started at the Veterans Memorial Park boat launch at 10:00 a.m.

Volunteers will spend the morning cleaning up trash and debris along the river’s edge to prevent water pollution.
