Firefighters responding to a house fire in Elkhart County faced an uphill battle Sunday night.
Just after 8:00 p.m., the Concord Township Fire Dept. received a call reporting a fully engulfed house fire in the 2400 block of CR 24 between CR 13 and CR 11,just southwest of Concord High School.
A neighbor said the fire was particularly unfortunate because the home was only built within the past nine months. She added that firefighters had a difficult time getting the flames under control due to the home's difficult location in the woods.
Battling the blaze and frigid temperatures, firefighters from six local departments had the tedious task of transporting water to the scene on tankers since no fire hydrants were found on the street.
Multiple other townships are assisting the Concord Twp. Fire Dept. by providing fire engines and water tankers including Baugo Twp., Elkhart Twp., Harrison Twp., and Wakarusa Volunteer Fire Dept.
No injuries have been reported, and officials say all the animals and homeowners inside were able to escape.
